Messaging is a great way of scaling your large apps and SQS provides an easy way to connect geographically seperated application servers.
SQS4Rails is meant to be a very simple and lightweight abstraction. If you need something more featurefull or envision yourself needing to switch to a different messaging stack in the future then Activemessaging might be more your thing.
